The Different Types of Skin Cancer

If you were asked which cancer account for 3 out of 4 cancer diagnoses in the world, would your answer be skin cancer? It is true that 75% of all cancer cases are skin cancer, and this statistic is extremely alarming. Despite the severity of the problem, most cases are fortunately cured.  However, skin cancer still needs to be taken seriously because it is dangerous if left untreated.

Typically, skin cancer falls under two categories – melanoma and nonmelanoma.  Melanoma can occur anywhere on the body, and it is the form of skin cancer that is the most threatening because the cancer can spread throughout the body. Basal cell skin cancer and squamous cell skin cancer are the two of the most common types of nonmelanoma skin cancer, but luckily these are rarely life-threatening.  For people with fair skin, barsal cell skin cancer is the most common type of skin cancer whereas squamous cell skin cancer is most common among people with dark skin.

Although melanoma is life-threatening, it can be removed during its early stages.  However, once it spreads to places such as the bone or the brain, then it becomes incurable according to WebMD. Therefore, regardless of the type of skin cancer you may have, early detection is key for the best chance of a cure in any types of skin cancer.

No matter what type of cancer, it is unsettling to have that diagnosis.  A-1 Home can find the perfect caregiver for any in home care needs if you or a loved one is looking for personalized cancer care. Our experienced caregivers can be found in Newport Beach, Huntington Beach, Anaheim Hills, Santa Ana, Tustin, Irvine, Villa Park, Fountain Valley, Brea, Fullerton, Yorba Linda,  Los Alamitos, and others in Orange County. With a dedicated staff of caregivers, they are ready to provide the adequate help that your elderly loved ones need. The Need for a Guardianship

When people can no longer make reasonable and safe decisions on their personal care or assets, then they are also vulnerable to fraud from scam artists.  Whether it is Alzheimer’s, post-stroke, or other mental or physical illnesses, having a guardianship or conservatorship can protect these folks from being taken advantage against. If there were already power of attorney or other estate planning in place prior to being incapacitated, then there no need for guardianship is not necessary.  However, if no such things are in place, then these court appointed roles are very important tools that families have to help protect their loved one’s rights.  In order to establish guardianship, it is best to find an elder law attorney who have the expertise to help guide you through the different steps in the legal process.

One of the duties for a legal guardian is to set up the living arrangement and long term care for the senior.  A-1 Home Care is a prepared to provide a variety of in-home care services. Life After Birth: Postpartum Depression

a-1 home care arcadia

What is Postpartum Depression?

Having a baby is like the night before Christmas–morning can’t come soon enough. The anticipation of your little one’s arrival can be all-consuming until your “special package” is ready to be opened. But after they’re delivered, the flood of hormones can sometimes lead to severe depression for a new mother.

Postpartum depression is a serious illness that affects some women in the first few months of childbirth, miscarriage and stillbirth. Unlike the “baby blues”, which is short-term, postpartum depression can last for months, and can have debilitating symptoms.

According to the Mayo Clinic, symptoms may include:

  • Loss of appetite
  • Insomnia
  • Intense irritability and anger
  • Overwhelming fatigue
  • Loss of interest in sex
  • Lack of joy in life
  • Feelings of shame, guilt or inadequacy
  • Severe Mood Swings
  • Difficulty bonding with your baby
  • Withdrawal from family and friends
  • Thoughts of harming yourself or your baby

Treatment Available

Postpartum depression affects mother and child, as your depression interferes with your ability to function. If left untreated, your baby can suffer the effects of the depression for the rest of their life. Unfortunate scenarios, such as behavioral problems, delays in cognitive development, and even the manifestation of depression, can occur if treatment is not sought early on. Self-help treatments, such as taking time out for yourself, daily exercise, and getting enough sleep can help alleviate some of these symptoms.

It Takes a Village

There is no shame in being diagnosed with postpartum depression. You are not a bad person or a bad parent for suffering at time when everything is supposed to be joyful. Sometimes you may need extra help just to get through the day. Seeking a caregiver or live-in care can make all the difference in the world. These short-term services can help you get through the first few months and beyond until you get back on your feet.

Some things are just out of our control, but seeking treatment and help is in your control.

If you live in the Garden Grove area and need a helping hand, please contact us at (949) 650-3800. We are also located in Anaheim Hills, Santa Ana, Tustin, Irvine, Villa Park, Brea, Fullerton, Yorba Linda, Diamond Bar, La Habra, Los Alamitos, Newport Beach, and others in Orange County.
